The Peak Bistro (Above)

153 Mount Pleasant Road, Senior Police Officers’ Mess
www.fb.com/thepeakbistro

Tucked-away eateries; new dining concepts by familiar brands. Featuring Chinese, Western and “AngloChinese” dishes, this eatery is tucked away on a hill within the Mount Pleasant area. A subsidiary of the Swatow Group, this restaurant is within a colonial setting that is perfect for lunch or a romantic dinner. Signature items include the herb-crusted rack of lamb, curry fish head, sauteed scallops with asparagus in XO sauce, and delightful desserts including panna cotta, double-boiled snow pear with red dates, and kueh jongkong. Strictly by reservation only and no walk-ins will be entertained.

Kara Cafe & Dessert Bar

617 Bukit Timah Road
www.karacafeanddessertbar.com

New dining concepts by familiar brands. Standing where Sogurt’s frozen yogurt shop used to be is this fresh dining concept by the same company. You can still get your froyo fix here, but with an alternative range of flavours, such as strawberry thyme, lychee rose, salted speculoos and my personal favourite, lavender maple. For mains, there is a variety of grain bowls (you can choose quinoa salad or Japanese garlic rice as your base), with toppings such as pork belly miso and tempura fish kimchi. There are also grilled toasted sandwiches to savour, such as the Classic Grilled Cheese or Smoked Bacon Blues, which features sharp Stilton blue cheese balanced with apple chutney.

Cafe Montigo

#01-50 The Star Vista, Tel: 6694-1136

East-West menu; new dining concepts by familiar brands. Some of us know Montigo Resorts for the relaxing stays it offers in neighbouring Batam, popular for short getaways and family fun. This cafe is the first in Singapore under its banner, and features local and Indonesian favourites, coupled with Western dishes. What you must try are ayam pangang berempah (a grilled chicken dish), martabak manis (sweet Indonesian pancakes with toppings) and pandan pancakes, served with coconut ice cream. There’s also mac and cheese, smoked salmon sandwiches and truffle fries. The trademark avocado express is a fragrant musttry for coffee lovers.
