This year marks the 50th anniversary of SAFRA, which was established in 1972. To thank our NSmen for their service, SAFRA will commemorate this milestone in SAFRA50, a string of events including charitable initiatives and giveaways, which will run all year long.
Here are five ways to enjoy SAFRA50 – and give back while you’re at it.
1. Score free treats
Mark your calendar because there’s something to redeem every month.
Till 31 May, you can claim your free Traditional Toast Set (includes two soft-boiled eggs and a medium hot kopi/teh; above) from Toast Box. Limited to the first 5,000 redemptions, this treat is available on a first-come, first-served basis, while stocks last, and only at participating outlets.
Craving something sweet and crunchy? You can also pick up your free 100g bag of cookies from Famous Amos this May. In June, beat the heat with a free scoop of your favourite ice cream at Swensen’s.
And from now until December, members can also win blockbuster movie tickets at Shaw Theatres (various locations) – there are 250 pairs of tickets up for grabs every month.

3. Take part in the SAFRA Wheels & Feet Charity Challenge
To thank our NSmen for their service, SAFRA50 will feature a host of events, including charitable initiatives and giveaways. One such initiative is the SAFRA Wheels & Feet Charity Challenge.
On 9 April, Senior Minister of State for Defence and President of SAFRA, Mr Zaqy Mohamad, launched the virtual challenge along Punggol Waterway Park.
“SAFRA50 is a momentous occasion for NSmen and their families, who give them so much support,” he said.
As part of this event, participants have to cycle, rollerblade, run or walk cumulative distances ranging from 5km to 500km over 50 days. They can also clock their registered distance in the gym on relevant exercise equipment like the stationary bike, treadmill, stepper or elliptical machine.
Registration has closed at 1,897 participants and to date, $155,346 has been raised for charity, exceeding the original target of $100,000 for the event alone, jumpstarting SAFRA’s commemorative campaign to raise funds for charity throughout the year.
The SAFRA Wheels & Feet Charity Challenge is one of six SAFRA Cares charitable events that have been organised to raise money for beneficiaries under the President’s Challenge; some of the events may also adopt additional beneficiaries.
The other five SAFRA Cares charitable events will be launched in the coming months: SAFRA E-Sports Fiesta With A Heart in June and October, SAFRA Charity Bowl in August, SAFRA Diaper Dash in September, SAFRA Swim for Hope in September to October, and Let’s Gift For A Reason in November to December. 4. Give back to help the needy through SAFRA Cares
SAFRA Cares creates opportunities for members, NSmen and their families to help those in need, while bonding through meaningful experiences. And there’s no more crucial time than now to give hope to the underprivileged and make a positive difference in their lives.
SAFRA Cares aims to channel 80% of funds collected to the diverse groups of beneficiaries under the President’s Challenge, especially those that support low income and vulnerable families, youths and children.
The remaining 20% are targeted to benefit severely disabled servicemen under the SAF Care Fund.
Other beneficiaries include charities and welfare organisations adopted by iconic SAFRA Cares events such as Swim For Hope and Let’s Gift For A Reason (above).
“SAFRA Cares is a charitable initiative we’ve launched this year to commemorate SAFRA50,” Mr Zaqy explains. “It’s made up of six events that NSmen and their families are invited to take part in. It’s a wonderful chance to share more special moments together while helping the most vulnerable in our society.”

5. Get one-year free SAFRA membership
SAFRA was established in 1972, to foster camaraderie among Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) NSmen and recognise them for their contributions to our country’s defence. Since then, SAFRA, through its clubs and facilities, has become a popular place for generations of NSmen and their families to forge closer bonds and make wonderful memories together.
It definitely pays to be a SAFRA member. Besides access to SAFRA clubs’ perks and amenities, you’ll score the best deals in town, receive exclusive members-only services, and enjoy all the SAFRA50 freebies and benefits being rolled out this year.
As part of NS55 – the 55th anniversary of National Service which also happens in 2022 – NSmen will receive $100 worth of digital credits and a free one-year SAFRA membership. Eligible NSmen can look out for a notification letter this June for details on how to claim their package.
With your SAFRA membership, you can access six clubs across the island – Jurong (above), Mount Faber, Punggol, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun. The seventh SAFRA club is scheduled to open in Choa Chu Kang by early 2023.
“SAFRA was created to recognise the contributions of NSmen and give them somewhere to share special moments with their families,” says Mr Zaqy.
“With SAFRA50, we hope that NSmen will sign up for the various events and take advantage of the great discounts, giveaways and deals. We encourage them to treat not just themselves but their families, too.”
