8 Huat Activities For You And Your Kids This Lunar New Year

Come celebrate the Lunar New Year at SAFRA with fun events the whole family will enjoy.

The Lunar New Year period is when the whole family gather together to celebrate and enjoy the festivities, and what better way to celebrate than with some fun activities that everyone can enjoy? To ring in the Year of the Ox, SAFRA has organised festive activities and treats for you and your family – so gather the kids and sign up for these right now!

Family Reunion Wall Mural

1. Make Your Creative Mark On A Wall Mural

An important aspect of the Lunar New Year is the Reunion Dinner, where the whole family comes together to celebrate the festivities at an annual feast. In this interactive wall mural display installation at SAFRA Punggol, you can contribute your creative touches by adding drawings of festive graphics or written greetings.

Felt Ang Pows

2. Create Your Own Felt Fan And Ang Pow

One way to ring in the Lunar New Year is to decorate your home with auspicious décor items. In these two fun online workshops on Facebook, you will learn how to make your own DIY Lunar New Year felt goldfish fan and red packets (Ang Pow) which you can use as wall décor at home. Be sure to involve your kids as this will be a super fun activity for them.

Pre-register for the craft kit and collect it from the SAFRA Tampines’ customer service counter from 23 January to 10 February, 9am to 9pm. Limited to the first 50 SAFRA Members.

Chinese Calligraphy

3. Learn Chinese Calligraphy

Put up auspicious Lunar New Year well wishes at home to greet your guests and to usher in good luck for the whole family. Learn the art of Chinese Calligraphy and understand the history of the well-wishes you’ve written, in this hands-on workshop.

Peranakan Tiles

4. Design Your Own Peranakan Tile

The Peranakan tradition in Singapore features some of the most intricate designs used in their cultural items and home décor. In this workshop, you will design and decorate your very own Peranakan tile in this workshop, and get to experience the traditional craft in a fun way.

Storytelling

5. Join A Storytelling Adventure

Gather everyone in the family and join in this performative storytelling session by storyteller Gloria Ang Xiao Ting, featuring illustrations by Teh Xiang Her. Her story tells the adventures of Guai Guai and her family of magical monsters as they gather to celebrate during the Lunar New Year festivities.

Chinese Horoscopes

6. Go On A Treasure Hunt

Bring the kids and have an exciting time at this treasure hunt around SAFRA Jurong. Also, look out for the 2021 zodiac forecast and read all about your fortunes in the Year of the Ox. There are prizes awaiting those who complete a quiz card where you will get a chance at the sure-win Spin & Win wheel.

7. Create Auspicious Ornaments

It will be a Huat year for you with these lucky charms decorated around your home. Learn how to make your own Chinese paper cutting hanging ornament, Lunar New Year paper bag and potpurri sachet. Plus, bring home a pair of customised chopsticks which will bless you with good luck.

Little Mandarin Planter

8. Make Your Own Little Mandarin Planter

Using an easy craft kit, you will learn how to create this really cute Little Mandarin Planter to place at home. Join the kids to do this fun activity and have an enjoyable time as a family as you piece together your mini planter.

Pre-registration is required for the craft kits. Collection at SAFRA Punggol’s customer service counter from 23 to 30 January, 9am to 9pm. Up to 100 kits available.
