Take advantage of the long weekend to DIY your own Easter party with family and friends.

Easter Sunday falls on 9 April this year. Organising your own Easter party at home can be lots of fun, as being the host means you can serve the food you like and invite every-bunny you want to enjoy the event with. In addition, each step, from designing cute decorations to devising party games, is an egg-cellent family bonding opportunity. This useful list of ideas and resources will help get your Easter party planning started. Look out for the special deals for SAFRA members as well!

1. Prepare seasonal dishes

Easter is a Christian holiday celebrated around the world, and the dishes eaten at Easter can vary depending on the cultural traditions of different regions. In many countries, a traditional Easter meal may include roast lamb, ham or fish, along with sides like potatoes, vegetables, and savoury pies. Eggs, which symbolise new life, are also a must and often appear in dishes like egg salads and deviled eggs.

For easy homemade dishes sure to impress your guests, try these chowder pie with scalloped potatoes or barramundi wellington recipes. You can get the freshest barramundi filets at Kühlbarra, Singapore’s only deep-sea farm.

SAFRA members and servicemen enjoy 20% off plus free delivery with a minimum of $120 spent at Kühlbarra. Find out more at safra.sg/promotions/Kuhlbarra

No time to cook? Then leave it to the experts. For example, Eatzi Gourmet Catering, the halal catering arm of the Jack’s Place restaurant chain, offers party sets starting from just 10 guests. There are plenty more catering options available, from convenient meal bundles for a cosy family gathering to full buffet set-ups for your Easter block party.

2. Deliver decadent desserts

What is Easter without baked goodies? A dessert table loaded with sweet treats can be a beautiful addition to the festive celebration. Some popular Easter desserts that appeal to both adults and children include Easter egg-shaped cakes, carrot cake and lemon bars. Other ideas include cupcakes decorated with pastel-coloured frosting, macarons with Easter-themed designs, and fruit tarts with fresh berries.

For a traditional treat that doubles as a fun family activity, make your own hot cross buns – this video shows how easy it is. Prefer to rely on store-bought treats? You can’t go wrong with Polar Puffs & Cakes’ signature sugar rolls. The homegrown bakery also offers a selection of party boxes, containing canapés and pastries the likes of All-time Favourite Finger Sandwiches and Dark Chocolate with Orange Peel Muffins.

Or, turn to the buttery tarts from Wunderfolks. Started as a home-based bakery during the Covid-19 pandemic, the patisserie now has three outlets. Fans rave about their Lemony Meringue, Dark Chocolate, and Fruitilicious tarts, all of which are perfect for Easter. They are also available in half-and-half flavours, as well as in 8-cm mini versions.

SAFRA members and servicemen enjoy 10% off a 4-tart box at selected Wunderfolks outlets. Find out more at safra.sg/promotions/Wunderfolks-22

3. Put up party decorations

Decorating your home for Easter can be a fun and creative process. Of course, there’s the ubiquitous Easter egg, which you can display in a variety of ways, such as in a basket or hung from the ceiling. Other ideas for Easter party decorations include pastel-coloured balloons, spring flowers like tulips and daffodils, Easter bunny figurines, and themed tableware like egg-shaped plates and bunny napkins.

Do your kids love to doodle, craft or paint? Then put their artistic talents to work by creating homemade Easter decorations. Make decorative Easter eggs with papier-mâché, string up themed garlands or get creative on canvas. Find more inspiration via kids’ art programmes and holiday workshops at various SAFRA clubhouses.

Another great way to instantly set the mood is to create a feature wall using wallpaper that depicts a fairytale garden or forest setting. Wall decals of chicks and bunnies can also add pops of cuteness to an otherwise blank wall.

4. Plan party games

Post-feasting party games are essential, so adults can work off the egg-cess calories while kids put their sugar high to good use. From the traditional egg hunt and Easter egg toss to bunny hop races and egg-decorating contests, there are plenty of options to keep guests of all ages entertained. Be sure to have plenty of prizes on hand for the winners to make the games even more competitive and enjoyable.

For younger children, a piñata bash, pin the tail on the bunny or egg-and-spoon races are always fun. You can also set up a craft station for them to create their own Easter bonnets or bunny masks. Of course, cupcake-decorating and Easter egg-painting activities work too.

If you’d like to incorporate stretching their young minds while you’re at it, get hands-on activity box sets that combine learning with fun play. For example, children 3 years and up can hatch their own dino egg with this dinosaur-themed Squizzel Box!

5. Assemble goodie bags

Chocolates are a must at any Easter party. And besides those on the dessert spread and chocolate Easter eggs you hide around the house, you can assemble goodie bags for your guests to thank them for attending your party. Besides chocolates, you can also fill them with marshmallows, jelly beans, and even small toys. Personalise the goodie bags with the recipients’ names and Easter-themed stickers or ribbons to make them extra special.

Choices run the gamut from affordable to fancy. Many hotels and designer chocolate brands go all out during the season with fine confectioneries, while budget chains like Daiso and Valu$ stores also offer plenty of options. Other popular sources include department stores, Marks & Spencer outlets, as well as major supermarkets like Fairprice, both online and offline.

SAFRA members enjoy $10 off a minimum of $59 spent at FairPrice online. Find out more at safra.sg/promotions/fponline
