Swiss watchmaker Swatch might be known for its sharp watch designs and witty fashion statements, but not many know that its inception in 1983 was a revolutionary salvo in response to the “quartz crisis” of the watchmaking industry in the 1970s that was brought on by the advent of non-mechanical timepieces.
