This year’s National Day is doubly special. Singapore turns 54, and we are commemorating the 200th year since modern Singapore was founded with SG Bicentennial this year as well.
Coincidentally, we have a long weekend to celebrate both milestones. And for those of you who are staying in Singapore, there are events and activities all across the island planned for that. Here’re are some activities you can do to make you feel proud to be Singaporean!
National Museum’s National Day Open House
Two days of fun activities featuring Singapore’s icons, exciting performances and art installations, plus a live screening of the National Day Parade at the NMS front lawn on 9 August. Look out for the friendly Museum Hosts and staff who will be on-site to direct you to the various programmes.
Sports Hub National Day Fiesta 2019
Singapore Sports Hub is throwing a National Birthday Bash for the family. Experience Singapore’s rich culture through fun, hands-on and interactive activities which include sporting activities, live telecast of the parade itself, family games and physical challenges.
Other programmes lined up include sports clinics, workshops, group workouts and many more.
SCO Music Oasis 2019 – Our SINGapore Songs
To be held at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, this evening will be filled with nostalgic and patriotic songs. The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will be performing evergreen favourites such as We are Singapore, Stand Up for Singapore and Voices from the Heart. This concert is also a double celebration as Singapore Press Holdings marks its 35th anniversary this year.
Become A Tourist for a Day
Hop-on on one of the tourist tours which will bring you to the many attractions such as: Orchard Road, Clarke Quay, Botanic Gardens, Marina Bay Sands, National Museum, Chinatown, Singapore Flyer, Little India, Kampong Glam. You might see new things and get a completely different perspective about the place you live.
Go on a National Heritage Trail
Our shared heritage, and the stories behind them, can be found in every nook and corner – be it at our iconic National Monuments, or in our everyday spaces such as our favourite neighbourhood playground. Embark on the National Heritage Board’s well-loved heritage trails and experience for yourself the untold stories behind the neighbourhoods and streets of Singapore where we live, work and play.
