The tantalising, full-bodied flavours of Mexico and Peru await at these purveyors of Latin American cuisine.

El Mero Mero

30 Victoria Street, #01-20 Chijmes
www.facebook.com/ElMeroMeroSg

At a place named “the boss of the boss”, one can expect a spread fit for a king. While there is a wide range of tacos and enchiladas, modern Mexican cuisine dishes here include ceviche and mains like New Zealand Angus beef burrito and fajitas filled with Black Angus flank steak. Most ingredients used are sourced directly from Mexico, with all salsas and sauces made freshly in-house. Want a cocktail to pair with your meal? From the wide range of choices, consider the El Mero Mero, made from orange-infused mezcal, fresh lime and agave.

Barrio

313@Somerset #01-14/15; #01-116 Vivocity
www.mexout.com

Barrio (“neighbourhood” in Spanish), by the folks behind Mex Out, offers fun and affordable dining for you to get together with friends and loved ones. Made in-house daily with locally sourced ingredients, the guacamole and salsas are among some of the restaurant’s must-try items. There are also vegetarian options, such as vege tacos and quesadillas. The drinks fuse Mexican elements with a modern, urban tone, with a range of tequilas, margaritas and beers, plus some non-alcoholic options, to choose from.

Senor Taco

3A/3D Clarke Quay #01-07/12; #01-06 Orchard Towers
www.senortaco.sg

Senor Taco opened the first taqueria (a restaurant specialising in tacos) here serving a range of Mexican-style street food, such as tacos and quesadillas, with a variety of fresh and spicy salsas too. The ingredients are imported from Mexico, and it makes its own tortillas right here in Singapore. This all translates to homely Mexican comfort food with authentic flavours. The restaurant stocks more than 50 varieties of premium tequila for sale by the shot or bottle. Don’t miss its famous Corona-rita, a frozen lime margarita with an upside-down bottle of Corona beer.

Comida Mexicana

404 East Coast Road
www.comidamex.com.sg

Opened last July by Margarita’s, Comida Mexicana is a casual dining spot – its name means “Mexican food” in Spanish – where all dishes are created using ingredients sourced from Mexico and the US. Tuck into appetisers such as Jalapeño Cheese Fritters and Chorizo with Red Wine, but save space for main dishes like Cornflakes Crusted Fish Fillets with Roasted Tomatillo Sauce and Fried Corn, and Red Chilli and Vegetables Braised Lamb Shank. The restaurant also often has off-the-menu specials – be nice – and you might end up enjoying dishes such as Crab and Avocado Quesadillas.

Tiger’s Milk

28 Ann Siang Road
www.fb.com/tigersmilksingapore

One essential ingredient in Peruvian ceviche is “tiger’s milk” – a citrus-based marinade. You’ll get to sample the best flavours of Peru at this rooftop bar through menu items such as ceviche, anticucho (skewered street food) and signature para picar (small plate dishes). These are paired with a library of pisco-infused concoctions for your indulgence. More conventional options are the Peruvian-style burger or Peruvian Roasted Chicken. And there’s also great music to accompany your feasting, with tunes that explore the rich and colourful sounds of Latin America.
