2. Youngs Bar & Restaurant
Tuck into modern European fare in a charming British colonial-style building in Seletar. 5. Nyonyas & Gentlemen
Nyonyas & Gentlemen, or NAG for short, is housed in Village Hotel Katong, in Singapore’s historical Peranakan area. The a la carte menu is a mix of classic and fusion Nyonya dishes, like green mango kerabu salad, Nyonya duck soup, Nyonya laksa, and fish fillet with Nyonya mango sauce. For a real treat, try their buffet, which offers a selection of starters, mains and desserts, from kueh pie tee and ayam buah keluak to chicken pongteh, Nyonya fish sambal and assorted Nyonya kueh. 6. Pavilion Banana Leaf
This halal-certified, casual dining restaurant in Westgate specialises in authentic South Indian Chettinad cuisine. You’ll find thosai set meals, featuring thin, tangy thosai crepes served with a variety of side dishes, curries and sauces, and thali set meals, which come with chapati and rice. For appetisers, choose from samosas, vadai and puri, and for mains, you can’t pass up the signature fish head curry, mackerel curry, masala chilli prawns, biryani, fish tikka, tandoori chicken, and chicken 65. 7. Beng Hiang Chinese Restaurant
For over 40 years, Beng Hiang has been synonymous with homestyle Hokkien dishes. The restaurant is especially known for its “black” Hokkien mee and crispy oyster omelette, but you will also relish other specialities, like Hokkien-style mee sua, fried rice with salted fish, scallops in yam ring, golden cereal prawns, and deep-fried chicken chop with lychee.
