The women in our lives – our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, friends, colleagues and more – do so much for us with their caring ways and unending sacrifices. Here are some ideas to show your appreciation, admiration and support for the women in your life and your community, this month and all year round – and some even come with special discounts for SAFRA members.
1. Say it with love
Sure, you might tell your Significant Other all the time that you love her, but why not express your feelings more elaborately with a romantic love letter? Remind her of how you felt when you first met and how she’s made you a better person since then, tell her all the things you love about her, and share all the hopes and dreams you have for the future that involve her. Besides making her feel cherished, a love letter is a wonderful keepsake; something she can hold onto and continue to read for years to come.
Don’t have a Significant Other? Your sister, aunt or friend may also appreciate a heartfelt note from you.
2. Show your thanks
When was the last time you thanked your mum, grandmother or other mother figure for looking after you and being there for you? Express your appreciation by treating her to a fancy meal, getting her a bouquet of flowers, or doing something to help make her life a little easier.

5. Be her handyman or helper for the day
Does Mum or Grandma have errands to run or chores to do around the house? Perhaps they need to repair a broken lighting fixture, move furniture around, get rid of clutter, wash their car, shop for groceries for the week, or clean their home. Offer whatever assistance you can and get the job done, so that they can take a break.
6. Spruce up her home
Surprise Mum, Sis or your spouse with a mini home makeover. Create a feature wall in the living room, paint the kitchen cabinets, swap out the door handles, replace the bathroom fixtures, add a frame to the bathroom mirror, or install a tile backsplash in the kitchen. You don’t have to spend a lot of money; even small and inexpensive changes can make a huge difference to the overall look of the space.
Where to go: Refresh the walls with wallpaper that features beautiful prints inspired by the tropics. Wall decals are another cool way to add a decorative touch. 9. Support women-owned businesses
Buy from businesses that are run by women – it will help keep them running and motivate female entrepreneurs to continue to grow their ambitions. In addition to purchasing their products or using their services, you can show your support by collaborating with them if you can, writing a positive review about their business, and tagging their brands on your social media posts. You can also tell your friends to buy their products or use their services and ask them to get the word out in turn.
10. Get involved in women’s causes
Whether it’s donating to charities that help low-income women and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds or volunteering your time at organisations that offer programmes that empower women, there’s a lot you can do to advance the status of women, create more opportunities for them in society, and advocate for their rights and gender equality. Some worthy organisations include Daughters of Tomorrow, WINGS and United Women Singapore.
