What’s New In November

Things to do and food and shopping recommendations as we wind down into the year end.

By this time of the year, you would have already made your travel plans, or you might even be on your way to the airport right now.

Unless youre making full use of the vaccinated travel lanes (VTLs) between Singapore and 13 other countries (at time of writing) including the US, UK and South Korea, we can only assume that youll be spending most of your time at home these days, or at work.

Beyond our recommendations for things to do or restaurants to dine at, heres a gentle reminder to everyone to remain safe and hang in there.

Celebrate Deepavali With SAFRA

This is Live! Concert Series – Mandopop Evenings

After more than a year of online concerts, heres your chance to finally attend one in person! The This is Live! Concert Series will kick off with two nights of performances featuring Mandopop hits. The event features covers of hit songs by Mandopop idols like JJ Lin, Jay Chou, Jam Hsiao, A-Mei, Jolin Tsai, Stefanie Sun and Hebe Tien and performed by local singers Skye Sirena, Leon Lim, and Wilson Huang. Held at the Flower Field Hall at Gardens by the Bay on Nov 19 and 20, there will be a total of four shows over the two days, starting from 6pm and 9pm.

Trashy Art 2021 By Passion Wave

Feeling creative? Put your trash or recycled, or recyclable materials to good use in the eco-art contest Trashy Art 2021”. Organised by PAssion Wave and its conservation arm Project Blue Wave, the move aims to raise awareness and spark conversation around marine and eco-conservation. To take part in the contest, individuals or teams of up to four must submit one artwork that is made from at least 80% trash, recycled or recyclable materials. The artwork must be portable and not exceed 1.7m in height and width. It can come in any creative medium and must come accompanied with a 100-word write up with the key message and inspiration behind the piece. The materials used should be collected from beaches, parks, or waterways around Singapore. The purchase of new materials is not encouraged. All winning entries will be displayed at one of the six PAssion Wave outlets for a year.

Savour a myriad of flavours this Deepavali at Grand Hyatt Singapores StraitsKitchen. From Nov 3 to 7, the hotels halal-certified theatre kitchen has whipped up a series of special lunch and dinner buffet menus. For instance, tuck into South and North Indian specialties from live stations serving Hyderabad Nalli Dhum Biryani (lamb shank served on long grain basmati rice), Sikandari Kalmi Raan (grilled lamb leg with cashew nuts and herbs) and traditional Indian sweets like Gulab Jamun (milk dumpling in saffron syrup) and Kesari Aam Kheer (rice pudding with mango and milk). On top of the Indian classics, guests can expect the usual favourites from StraitsKitchens Malay, Peranakan and Chinese kitchens.
