Hotpot or steamboat has been a constant favourite since the early days of the restaurant industry in Singapore. Whether it’s the flavourful soups, fresh ingredients, the company, or the memories of childhoods spent around grandma’s steamboat at the dinner table, we’re not sure. One thing we do know, though, is that this is one simmering hot dining trend that is here to stay.
In this list, we round up the stalwarts and the newcomers.
1. Suki-Suki Hot Pot
Opened in 2020, this halal hotpot restaurant at SAFRA Toa Payoh will leave diners spoilt for choice with its seven soup bases and over 40 ingredients. Here, one can choose from more traditional bases such as nourishing chicken and Oriental healthy tomato, or opt for the more adventurous Singapore lemak laksa or sauerkraut cabbage. Thai food lovers will not want to miss the restaurant’s sawadee tom yum goong and Thai basil chicken soups.

2. Suki-Ya
The Japanese-themed hotpot restaurant offers simple yet flavourful meals. If going for the tried and tested is your thing, you won’t be disappointed by Suki-Ya’s shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, topped with its paper-thin meats, fresh juicy veggies and slippery udon noodles.

3. Captain Kim Korean BBQ & Hotpot Buffet
Hungry? We hope so, if you’re visiting Captain Kim Korean BBQ & Hotpot Buffet. The place is known for its generous army stew hotpot and, well, Korean-style barbecue featuring over 60 varieties of meats and ingredients.

4. Haidilao
No hotpot listicle is complete without Haidilao, the popular Chinese hotpot chain that’s taken Singapore by storm. Haidilao opened its first restaurant outside of China in Clarke Quay in 2012. Every visit to Haidilao is an experience, whether for regular meals or special occasions. The hotpot chain is known for many things, chief among them, its unparalleled customer service (including dancing waiters and over-the-top birthday songs), quality ingredients and of course, its soup bases. They are also arguably the pioneer of the concoct-your-own-dipping-sauce counter.

5. Coucou Hotpot.Brew Tea
Founded by Chinese brand Xiabu Xiabu in 2016, Coucou Hotpot.Brew Tea is a Taiwanese-style restaurant that pairs its hotpots with bubble tea, practically a Taiwanese staple. Here, you’ll find premium cuts such as Berkshire pork collar slices and USDA choice beef short ribs, as well as other equally enticing eats like the tiger prawn wonton, lychee-shaped shrimp balls and the beancurd puff. There are also a variety of soup bases ranging from Taiwan-style spicy soup to coconut-chicken soup, as well as bovine bone with tomato soup.

6. Beauty in the Pot
Here’s another classic hotpot restaurant. Beauty in the Pot, which has been in Singapore since 2014, is owned by the Paradise Group. It is best known for its beauty collagen broth as well as other nourishing soup bases. While you’re here, consider trying its beauty collagen broth (self-explanatory), its spicy nourishing broth which promises immunity and energy, or the longevity wild pine mushroom broth which boasts a mix of wild pine mushrooms, morel mushrooms, cordyceps flower, shimeji mushrooms and more.
