On Sunday, 19 October 2025, the BE@SAFRA Open House event held at SAFRA Jurong was injected with even more excitement as Minister of State for Defence and President of SAFRA Mr Desmond Choo announced plans to refresh the club into an Urban Oasis, complete with resort-style stays, smart fitness innovations, vibrant dining avenues, and enhanced family-friendly facilities.

The announcement took place at the fun-filled, defence-themed event held in celebration of SAF60. Amid a lively morning of games, family activities, and charity recognition for the two-month-long SAFRA Swim for Hope 2025, guests got a first look at the club’s future, one that promises a whole new way for NSmen and their loved ones to play, connect, and recharge.

A Resort-Style Escape in the West

First launched in 2009 with a family-centric theme, SAFRA Jurong has long served as a home away from home for the national servicemen and families living in the western part of Singapore. Now, it’s poised to evolve into a modern retreat designed for today’s active lifestyles — a green sanctuary where leisure meets community.

The refreshed club will feature resort-style accommodation ideal for staycations, ranging from three-storey villas to two-storey duplexes and one-storey studios. Think spacious verandas, poolside views, and tropical-inspired relaxation right in the neighbourhood — perfect for weekend getaways or bonding retreats with family and friends.

Family Fun & Fresh Experiences

Families with little ones will delight in the refreshed Kidz Amaze indoor playground, which will feature new thematic play zones designed to spark imagination and adventure. Across the club, entertainment options will be updated to resonate with the interests of younger national servicemen and their families, while the club’s façade and atrium will be redesigned with a sleek, open-concept aesthetic — inviting more natural light and a breezier, modern feel.

Shaped By The Community

What makes SAFRA Jurong’s upcoming transformation truly special is that it’s inspired by its members. Feedback from NSmen and families in the western region, gathered through surveys and focus groups, played a key role in shaping the new vision. Their insights helped guide everything from facility upgrades to programming ideas, ensuring the refreshed club remains relevant, engaging, and meaningful to its community.

Transformation Timeline

The upgrading works are set to begin in late 2026, with completion targeted for early 2028. Renovations will take place in phases, allowing the club to stay open so members can continue enjoying most of its amenities during the transformation.

A Morning of Celebration and Purpose

The announcement wasn’t just about unveiling plans, it was also a celebration of community and giving back.

During the event, Mr Desmond Choo presented appreciation tokens and a mock cheque representing funds raised through SAFRA Swim for Hope 2025, benefitting seven charities. This year’s event raised a total of $290,000 for the beneficiaries.

The event also featured children trying on SAF uniforms, underprivileged kids enjoying complimentary play sessions at Kidz Amaze, and families engaging in activities at the gym and “TD Ready!” board game booth. The SAF elements incorporated into the event is in line with the vision and commitment which Mr Choo has set out to achieve, which is to prepare youths for National Service life by fostering greater awareness and readiness among young Singaporeans.

With its upcoming resort-style stays, smart amenities, and vibrant social spaces, SAFRA Jurong’s Urban Oasis promises to redefine leisure for NSmen and their families in the West — not just as a club, but as a destination where rest, recreation, and relationships flourish.

The West is set to get its very own retreat — and it’s one you’ll want to keep coming back to.
