Start Off 2021 With These Kid-Friendly Activities And Programmes

It’s never too late, or rather, early, to keep having fun with your mini-me even when school starts.

By Chris Ong        5 January 2021

It’s the new normal, new year, and more importantly, a new school year for the young master or mistress of the house. And while getting children back into the groove of studying during the first term-slash-quarter of the year is an important task, it is also worthwhile to allot some time and space for the youngsters to let loose, just so as to develop their life skills and interests outside of school. Bring out your kid – literally and figuratively – through these 4 “fun-ducational” programmes and activities.

While believing in the merits of studying hard is all fine and dandy, all work and no play can also make Jack a dull boy. So why not let your child be his or her playful self for a day at Kidz Amaze? It just might make your kiddo happy as well as help the family bond. Specially designed for children from 12 months to 13 years, the award-winning indoor playgrounds found at SAFRA Toa Payoh, Punggol and Jurong have more than enough play equipment to keep the kids occupied, build up their strength and stamina, and stimulate their imagination.

The playground arenas at each branch contain visually interesting and themed interactive soft play centres that can help in developing your child’s coordination, sense of direction and motor-skills. Little “Jack” will have lots of fun slipping down wave slides, monkeying around on swing balls, and climbing through the “ropey” Rainbow Maze. What’s more, Splash @ Kidz Amaze at Punggol even has an indoor water playground so that you and the kids get a day of play while keeping cool (and wet) on hot days!

Bonus: Kidz Amaze is offering a 1-for-1 weekday kid’s ticket promotion from 11 January to 31 March 2021 for Kidz Amaze and SAFRA members, and 50-percent off Kidz Amaze Membership for all SAFRA Family Scheme (SFS) members from now till 31 Mar 2021. Plus, it is now also conveniently available on KLOOK for members of the public to purchase Kidz Amaze Tickets.

If your child is an aspiring artist – or you just want to make sure your kiddo learns how to draw properly without having him or her doodle all over the walls – try registering little Picasso in any of Canvas Ark @ SAFRA’s art programmes. The curricula offered are designed to encourage creativity and imagination in children, through the mediums of drawing, painting and clay modeling, with guidance by trained Art instructors. There are two main programmes to choose from: a Progressive Art Programme (for children 7 to 12 years old) and a Thematic Art Programme (for children 4 to 12 years old).

If you figure your child is already showing signs of being an artist (i.e. able to draw or paint, or have had experience with doing art), you can help improve their technique and learn more skills such as Shading Techniques and Blind Contour Drawing, using materials like charcoal and soft pastels in the former programme. Develop your kid’s artistic journey with the Thematic Art Programme, an exploratory one suitable for children who may not have had experience with or lessons in art. Here, they can try their hands at clay-making, painting, drawing and more, by picking any of the themed lessons – Water Adventure, Mosaic Art, World of Insects or In the Desert – to start their own artistic adventure.

Or, if you really just want to spend some quality time with your loved ones to express your artistic selves, you can also opt for the 2-hour Art Jam weekday sessions. Suitable for everyone regardless of age, all materials will be provided for you and the fam to freestyle it up (unguided and guided sessions are both available), have yourself hours of painterly fun and, at the end of the day, take home your very masterpieces for the family wall.

Exciting new programmes coming in 2021!
