Indoor rock climbing offers you a full body workout. It strengthens your core muscles and builds your endurance as you utilise your natural momentum to hold onto your grip and climb up simultaneously.

Climb Central at SAFRA Choa Chu Kang not only has beginner classes for those willing to venture out of their comfort zones, but also a dedicated checklist to ensure that every climb is as safe as it is fun.

Making your way to the top

At Climb Central, you don’t even need to have climbing experience to begin your ascend. Simply sign up for a membership pass (or purchase a day pass), attend a quick safety briefing and you can immediately start your climb.

For those who need that extra guidance, Climb Central has beginner classes that will guide aspiring climbers through a 12m-high wall as well as the foundations of bouldering (climbing without ropes and harnesses). More importantly, Climb Central is fully housed indoors so you can get your dose of adrenaline regardless of weather irregularities.

Keep going up, and never look down!

Your indoor rock climbing checklist

Like any fitness endeavour, safety should always be your top priority. Climbing experts at Climb Central have come up with the ultimate safety checklist for both novice and veteran climbers, in the video below:

Tip 1: Gear check and fitting

Begin any climb with a gear check. Make sure your harness, helmet and shoes are in good condition. Adjust your harness so that it is secured and fits comfortably.

Tip 2: Communication is key

Establish clear and identifiable signals with your climbing group. Have signals dedicated to calls of help as well as reminders for proper breaks in between your climbs.

Tip 3: Embrace the rest: Halfway break

When you’re halfway up that wall, make sure to take a breather. Whether it is to release some tension from your arms, to find that secure hold or simply to admire the view, it is crucial that you take regular breaks so that you have adequate strength and energy for the remaining climb.
