One of the most popular indoor recreational sports, bowling is beloved for its ability to elevate social gatherings with a healthy dose of athletic competition.
Yet, how often do you actually consider your lane conditions when aiming for the pins? Or the angle of your throw? If anything, bowling is kind of like chess – easy to learn, hard to master. SuperBowl at SAFRA welcomes casual and professional bowlers alike, so you can kickstart your foray into the world of bowling at one of their world-class bowling alleys!

Watch our video below where we have veteran bowling coach Jayden from SAFRA Tampines share some tricks on how you can hone your bowling accuracy for a consistent game.
1. Set-Up Position
Engage the proper posture even before you aim for the pins.
- Keep your feet pointed towards the direction of your aim
- Square your hips and your shoulders
- Your arm should be angled 90 degrees from your body, with your hips and shoulders facing straight towards the pins
2. Two-Point Targeting System with Arrows and Pins
A two-point targeting system requires the bowler to carefully consider both his starting position and the focal point – which are largely determined by visual markers painted on the lane. Professional bowlers typically draw a pattern between these points so as to achieve their desired angle.
- Observe the position of the arrow markers relative to the pins
- Once you have visualised your approach, you can begin your advance towards the foul line
- Keep an eye on your target as you do so
- Release the ball at the bottom of the swing
3. Finishing Position
“Just throw the ball.”
It is time to move past the above haphazard bowling practice and instead consider taking this four-step footwork approach which will refine your finishing position.
- Upon reaching the foul line, bend your knees and lean forward
- Raise the empty hand so that it is positioned 90 degrees from the body
- Shift one leg behind the other leg, so as to help your body build momentum for the ultimate throw
- Amplify your starting momentum by swinging your ball backwards, releasing it at the same time
