When your child gets a well-deserved break after a busy semester, make this short reprieve a special one. There is a wonderful abundance of camps and workshops prepared by SAFRA and many others to make this vacation extra memorable, so read on to find out more!

1. BMT Kids Camp at SAFRA Yishun

Nothing brings the kids to the good ol’ outdoors better than a NS-themed Kids Camp! Enlist your child in Basic Military Training Children’s Edition (BMTCE) as they march, sing, cook, navigate and most importantly, explore beyond their everyday comforts. With a mix of fun and resourceful lessons, your kid can be part of a grand adventure that includes Tent and Basha Building, Outdoor Cooking, Jungle Navigation and Basic Self-Defence Techniques. And of course, lots and lots of timeless military drills, chants, and songs

At the end of their initiation, parents can even attend their Passing Out Parade (POP), concluding a rite of passage marked with unforgettable memories.

2. Canvas Ark September School Holidays Workshops

The brilliant pop art prodigy Andy Warhol believed that art is anything you can get away with. And this is the central theme that will be studied and appreciated at Canvas Ark’s inspired art lessons during the upcoming school holidays. Not only will your kid learn from the artistic principles introduced by luminaries such as Warhol and Claude Monet, but they will also create art pieces inspired by their own interpretations and takeaways from this workshop. Who knows, you might unearth a budding artist!

3. SAFRA Swim For Hope 2023

SAFRA Swim For Hope is back again! To raise support for and awareness of mental wellness, this year’s swimming marathon has partnered with an amazing panel of beneficiaries which does great work, including Care Corner Singapore, Children’s Aid Society and many more. Not only is this a swimmingly great opportunity to spend time with your kids, but it is also a fitting occasion to cultivate in them a sense of altruism and compassion for those in need. 

You can choose to take part in the Open Individual (13 and above), Team (min. 5 pax) or Families For Life categories. In the Families For Life category, sign up as a duo consisting of a parent and a child (12 and below) to swim a distance of either 1km or 5km. You can even include the entire family by purchasing additional slots (up to 2 pax) under the same category. Participants will receive an event T-shirt and a finisher medal. You can also decide how you would like to complete your swim, with virtual, physical and hybrid options available.

4. Parenting Talk by Kidz Amaze – “Why Does My Child Behave Like This?”

As any parent can attest, child rearing can be incredibly complex and perplexing. Early Childhood Education Specialist Ms Peggy Zee, a consultant for the Early Childhood and Development Agency and owner of several childcare centres, knows this all too well. During this session, she delves into the sensory challenges that your child faces, and how to handle the behavioural patterns that may result from them. While you attend the talk, your kids can enjoy playtime at Kidz Amaze!

When: 2 September 2023, 10.30am to 12pm

Free for SAFRA members and parents of Kidz Amaze members (including 1 adult guest)

5. Bee Amazed Visit

Did you know that a single bee produces a tablespoon of honey in its entire lifetime? Another bee-fact you might not know – bees love to dance so much that they actually communicate via intricately animated dance moves! 

There is so much about these indispensable natural custodians that eludes us. So why not pay a visit to a local hive observatory and witness the diligence of honeybees for yourself? SAFRA will be hosting a day trip to the Bee Amazed Garden, a beekeeping and education firm, for our little explorers to observe, study, and understand the importance of beekeeping in relation to our ecology. Participants can expect two-way transportation as well as light refreshments at SAFRA Jurong after the tour.

6. Junior Ocean Detective by Resorts World Sentosa

Beneath our oceans lies a hidden world with a flourishing ecosystem. Now with tools and technology to explore this otherwise inaccessible world, your young intrepid investigators can finally unravel its wondrous mysteries.

This workshop equips your kids with special tools such as an optical filter and a cool cipher decoder, for them to decrypt the mysteries lurking in the watery depths. They will be guided by an aquarist, who will share more about marine conservation and what they can do to protect our oceans, and will be given access to S.E.A Aquarium’s back-of-house. Our budding Ocean Detectives will not leave empty handed too, for they will receive a certificate, lanyard, badge and a token to celebrate the completion of their adventure.

7. Future World: Where Art Meets Science by ArtScience Museum

You definitely do not want to miss ArtScience Museum’s most novel and illuminating permanent exhibition yet. An amalgamation of multisensory projections and interactive digital displays, this exhibition takes the most beautiful aspects of our Garden City and embellishes them with modern artistic accents.

Create music on a canvas with its Sketch Piston – Playing Music artwork, as you piece visual and animated projections together to form a musical piece. Or reimagine the fabrics of our transportation nexus by connecting giant interactive renders of moving cars, trains, planes, and boats on a digital cityscape. 8. KiddoTrip: Explore and Play
