Who will emerge as the upper crust?

By Amanda Tan        13 June 2024

From Neapolitan classics to slices with a Japanese twist, the choices for pizza places around Singapore are endless. Look out for the special perks SAFRA members get at some of these places too!

1. Picolino

Picolino

When it comes to a slice of whimsy, the Italian casual dining restaurant, part of the Les Amis Group, serves it in spades. Here, a variety of pizzas – ranging from the classic margherita to salmon mentaiko and gochujang chicken – are served. We hear the burrata pizza is a favourite.

SAFRA members enjoy 1-for-1 pizzas from Mondays to Fridays here. Go to safra.sg/promotions/picolino for more details.

LINO

Also part of the Les Amis Group, the contemporary Italian restaurant specialises in fresh handmade pizza, pastas, as well as other Italian favourites. The buratta, pancetta and mixed mushroom pizzas come highly recommended.

3. L’antica Pizzeria da Michele

L’antica Pizzeria da Michele

Hailed as a “must-visit” by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, we’d be remiss if we didn’t give this pizzeria a mention. One of the oldest and most famous pizzerias in the world, L’antica Pizzeria da Michele was first established in 1870 in Naples, Italy. Slightly over 150 years later, the pizzeria has opened its first Southeast Asian branch in Singapore. It is said to be the first pizzeria in Singapore to serve pizza a ruota di carro, or wagon wheel pizza, a classic Neapolitan-style pizza which is characterised by its thin and wide dough base served draped over the plate.

4. Eat Pizza

Eat Pizza

Even if you are not a fan of K-dramas and K-pop, you can still bond over this popular South Korean pizza chain, which is known for its 25cm-long rectangular pizza slices. We love that its pizzas come in a variety of unique flavours such as Sweet Potato, Crispy Potato Bacon and house signature Hot Spicy Chicken, and are ready to go in five minutes flat.

5. Beyond the Dough

Beyond the Dough

Run by Japanese chef Eddie Murakami who learnt the art of pizza-making at Pizza Strada and Pizza Studio Tamak, two Michelin-approved restaurants in Japan, Beyond the Dough also features Neapolitan-style pizza on its menu, but with a Japanese twist. While the pizza still comes with a flat and wide base, the dough is made from Japan-sourced flour and is proofed for 30 hours. It is then baked in a wood-fired kiln and lit with Japanese wood. Try the Rampage – a Singapore-exclusive flavour – which features a spicy prawn sauce base that’s been cooked for 20 hours, and topped with chunks of minced prawn.

6. Palmers Pizzeria

Palmers Pizzeria

If you’ve never tried an authentic Chicago deep dish pizza, now may be a good time to try one. Unlike its more famous thin-crust tavern-style cousin, the Chicago deep dish pizza looks more like a pie, although its crust and toppings are still the ones we know and love. Owned and operated by American chef Chris VanWinkle, each pizza is made to order from the home-based bakery. Self-collection and island-wide delivery are available.

Go to palmerspizzeria.sg for more details.

Here, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the Hut’s offerings, from its sheer variety of pizza offerings to its pastas, baked rice and sides. Classic pizza flavours like Hawaiian and Super Supreme are always a hit, and if you’re a cheese fiend, don’t forget to top up for the Stuffed Crust.
