In the pursuit of fitness, the methods and choices can sometimes be overwhelming. But you don’t have to sign up for that 1-year membership package on a whim – it’s okay to test the waters before taking the plunge.

Here are 6 fitness establishments at SAFRA that offer free trial classes, so you can explore your options before committing. Happy tryouts!

1. EnergyOne gym

EnergyOne Gym

One of Singapore’s most premier gym chains located at SAFRA clubs, EnergyOne gym not only has a versatile array of offerings, but also reinvents fitness as a routine that is both accessible and affordable. Having recently introduced a plethora of Hammer Strength equipment in various outlets, these new additions enhance an already comprehensive catalogue of amenities. These include wellness facilities such as hot tubs (selected outlets) and steam rooms as well as experiential hubs with the likes of a boxing ring at SAFRA Choa Chu Kang. With seven outlets spread strategically across our little dot, you won’t have to travel far to find a gym studio near you.

If you’re an active NSF (Full-time National Serviceman), you’re in luck! As part of SAFRA’s Appreciating NSmen package, you can redeem a free membership spanning up to three months immediately after you complete your service. This gives you access to the gym’s full collection of top-tier equipment and state-of-the-art training spaces – all at no cost to you. So, make sure to seize it while you still can!

You can find more information at safra.sg/membership/safra-appreciation-package. SAFRA members also enjoy special rates when they sign up or renew their gym membership.

3. Z Fencing

Z Fencing

This discipline is much more than wielding a pointy sabre. Fencing preserves the grace, agility and mental acuity that has guided some of the world’s most renowned swordsmen.

At Z Fencing located at SAFRA Toa Payoh, initiates will learn critical skills, such as elegant bladework, fencing tactics, hand-eye coordination and agile footwork to properly navigate the piste with ease. Students up to 18 years old can schedule a complimentary trial session to begin their swashbuckling adventures.

Interestingly, Singaporean Olympians Amita Berthier and Kiria Tikanah actually began their fencing journey here, alongside many others!

Reach out to Z Fencing at zfencing.com/location for your trial lesson.

4. The Ballet Academy

The Ballet Academy

If you’re looking to pick up ballet as a serious hobby, there really is no better place to learn than at The Ballet Academy at SAFRA Toa Payoh. With a curriculum that strictly incorporates syllabi set by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), this dance institution readies its young learners for a deeper interest in the dance form, which can be further pursued professionally if one chooses to do so. Beyond that, young ballet dancers will learn to properly execute techniques such as the Grand Allegro and Pirouettes. Adult classes are also available – sign up for a trial lesson now!

With over 900 students to date at its SAFRA Yishun and SAFRA Punggol schools, StepUp is quickly building up to be one of Singapore’s leading dance educators. From urban Hip-Hop and soulful Jazz to Classical Ballet, this institution has a wealth of opportunities for young dancers to fully express themselves on the big stage.

6. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Fun fact – Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is eponymously named after the Gracie family, said to be the founders of this martial art variant. It spotlights a unique fighting style that leverages weight disparity to manipulate opponents who are larger and stronger.

More importantly, this universally acclaimed martial art imparts skills pertaining to physical fitness, courage and intuition. At its SAFRA Choa Chu Kang studio, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu juniors will be taught sparring fundamentals alongside ground-fighting techniques and submission holds. Classes for adults cover street safety and self-defence for women.
