As Singapore celebrates its 60th birthday, this year’s National Day is going beyond the Padang – and SAFRA is leading the way!

This August, Singapore’s spirit will rise high over the skyline and through the heartlands as SAFRA spearheads a National Day celebration that is not just a party, but a proud tribute to 60 years of nationhood by bringing the nation’s biggest birthday bash to the Bayfront Event Space at Marina Bay, making the festivities more accessible, more vibrant, and more meaningful for NSmen, their families, and the wider public.

Feel The Vibrant Heartbeat

In a bold and meaningful move, SAFRA’s “Vibrant Heartbeat” themed celebration – SAFRA Bayfront National Day Celebration – brings together live music, community pride, and national unity at the Bayfront Event Space at Marina Bay. As an extension to this celebration, all seven SAFRA clubs islandwide will also have additional activities, culminating in a joyous occasion for all SAFRA members and Singaporeans.

On 2 and 9 August 2025, the Bayfront will pulse with colour and rhythm as it transforms into a celebratory hub for thousands. Before the parade begins, audiences will be treated to live performances by celebrated homegrown groups like Jumpstart, a bilingual pop-rock band known for their powerful vocals and diverse style, and yIN Harmony, which fuses Chinese, Indian, and Japanese flutes to reflect Singapore’s rich multicultural heritage.

From 6pm, the excitement builds with a live NDP 2025 screening on towering LED screens, creating a truly immersive experience. Spectators at the Bayfront will also enjoy front-row views of iconic NDP spectacles such as the State Flag Flypast, a breathtaking fireworks display across the city skyline, and a special aerial tribute by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) in honour of SG60.

Among the brand-new highlights this year is the “Jump of Unity” featuring naval divers from the Republic of Singapore Navy descending dramatically at the Bay – a powerful symbol of strength and solidarity. Audiences can also look forward to a visually stunning maritime display as part of the ceremonial segments.

Stay For The Post-Parade Celebration Vibes

Once the parade ends, the celebration amps up again with a post-parade party featuring the energetic Urban Drum Crew, who have performed in over 15 countries, and DJ Tinc, whose electrifying sets and vocals promise to keep the crowd’s spirits on a high.

For those celebrating in the heartlands, all SAFRA clubs – Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, Mount Faber, Punggol, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun – will come alive with NDP screenings on 9 August, together with traditional games, pop-up food stalls, and sing-along sessions. There will also be island-hopping tours to Kusu Island, Pulau Ubin, St John’s and more, alongside a photography competition to celebrate Singapore’s natural and cultural treasures. All SAFRA members should stay tuned for more information at the SAFRA Clubs’ Facebook pages and the SAFRA website if you would like to register for these activities.

As BG (NS) Kenneth Liow, Director of National Service Affairs and Chairman of the organising committee, aptly puts it, “Marking SG60, this year’s celebrations will hold great meaning for all Singaporeans and our national servicemen who have safeguarded Singapore’s peace and security for decades.”

Whether you’re dancing by the Bay, playing chapteh with neighbours, or snapping photos of our island’s beauty, SAFRA’s SG60 festivities are a heartfelt reminder of what it means to be Singaporean – resilient, diverse, and united. Join in, and let’s make this milestone birthday a celebration to remember.

This vibrant festival is set to be the biggest community celebration SAFRA has ever brought to the Marina Bay. So you do not want to miss this!

How To Attend: Tickets and Balloting (26 June – 4 July 2025)

SAFRA members and NSmen who ballot successfully will be able to enjoy the full show alongside their loved ones.

Balloting is open to all SAFRA members, Singaporeans and Permanent Residents from 26 June, 12pm, to 4 July 2025, 12pm. Each applicant can ballot for 2 or 4 tickets. All successful applicants will be notified by 10 July 2025 via SMS and email.

Visit www.safra.sg/BayfrontNationalDayCelebration for more information on the event and for the balloting link.

Your National Day, Your Celebration

As Singapore turns 60, this celebration is all about inclusivity, unity, and community. Whether you’re watching the parade with your family, bonding with your kids amidst the festivities, or celebrating into the night with your best buddies – this is your National Day.

SAFRA Bayfront National Day Celebration is more than an event. It’s about bringing Singaporeans together – across generations, backgrounds, and roles – for a shared moment of pride, joy, and unity.

This August, let’s make new memories under the Marina Bay skyline. Let’s celebrate Singapore the SAFRA way.

How to Train Your Dragon

Release Date: 12 June 2025

Starring: Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler

Can you believe that it has been 10 years since the first animated How to Train Your Dragon hit our movie screens? Since then, many movie-goers have fallen in love with the ever-bubbly dragon Toothless and its ever-loyal handler, Hiccup, who has grown from a feeble yet lionhearted initiate into his village’s chieftain in the second and final installments of this awe-inspiring trilogy. It seems like there were no more tales to tell for the Dragon Riders of Berk.

Thankfully, director Dean DeBlois has other plans for this unstoppable duo, returning to the big screens with a live-action adaptation of the very movie that introduced these endearing protagonists to us. The eponymous remake also sees the return of Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, who voiced the titular character in its animated counterpart. It will be interesting to witness this newfound father-son dynamic between Butler and up-and-coming actor Mason Thames, who plays the hilariously awkward Hiccup in his formative years. Nico Parker, who is best known for her role as Sarah Miller in the The Last of Us television series lends her disarmingly arresting presence to this beloved franchise as Astrid.

For those who are skeptical that the realism of live-action remakes might overshadow the comedic and light-hearted moments that have defined the trilogy, DeBlois assures the film is no absurd transposition that seeks to reinvent the narrative spirit of the series, but rather, an adaptation that will feel “very much like the animated film but everything [is] a little more elaborate and detailed.”

A Gilded Game

Release Date:  12 June 2025

Starring: Andy Lau, Ou Hao, Huang Yi

Tiger General of TVB and Heavenly King Andy Lau is back with another action thriller movie, this time centred around the tumultuous world of finance. Playing a stoic equity analyst and mentor to Gao Han, a wide-eyed intern at his investment bank, he embodies the “kill or be killed” nature of the trading floor, his apathy a symptom of a cutthroat realm that thrives on betrayal, exploitation and manipulation. Gao Han serves as a brilliant juxtaposition for he is uncompromising in his integrity, refusing to allow his ruthless environment to shape his principled outlook of life.

28 Years Later

Release Date: 19 June 2025

Starring: Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes

Following a devastating zombie apocalypse that hit Great Britain in its first installment, 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later, this contemporary horror entry expounds on the aftermath of a society left in ruination by hordes of bloodthirsty zombies that roam the cityscape, a solemnly macabre contrast to a world before the Rage virus hit. While survivors have managed to assimilate to their dark reality, a father-son duo discovers new horrors and heartbreaking secrets as they wander into the oasis of evil that awaits them in the mainland.

For anyone that enjoyed 28 Days Later, you’ll be pleased to know that its director, Danny Boyle will return to spearhead the series latest venture, bringing the same frenetic stylistics that blend primal violence with a visceral reactivity to elevate his flair for nuanced storytelling. More excitingly, eminent actor Ralph Fiennes joins the cast as Dr Kelson. His harrowing performance in The Menu (2022) as a deranged and eccentrically intense chef leaves one to imagine the wonders he can contribute to the horror genre, especially in a canvas like 28 Years Later

Disney and Pixar’s Elio

Release Date: 19 June 2025

Starring: Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, Brad Garrett

Too often are we presented a narrative that sees extraterrestrials and non-sentients awkwardly and humorously struggle to comprehend the complexities of our very human world. Elio turns this narrative on its heel with the namesake protagonist, an eleven-year-old boy, transported to an interplanetary nexus coined as the Communiverse after being wrongly identified as Earth’s ambassador. His child-like intrigue, combined with a zealous passion for cosmology, makes for a novel adventure as he explores an anomalous alien ecosystem, all the while working with his newfound friends to tackle intergalactic conundrums.

Interestingly enough, Elio is also Madeline Sharafian’s feature directorial debut!

M3GAN 2.0

Release Date:  26 June 2025

Starring: Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald

Having begun as a campy horror film, M3GAN 2.0 might come as a shock for the film’s cult following seeing how the sequel shifted away from its murderous, almost slasher-type, trope to what is essentially an action film. Don’t misunderstand – there is still plenty of savagery and unvarnished gore that are very apparent in the first film, but this latest entry is further uplifted with flashy fight sequences and comedic exchanges between M3GAN and those who she had tormented and antagonised in the first film.

A Model 3 Generative Android initially built to protect and care for Gemma’s niece, Cady, M3GAN gradually descends into a murderous spree, eliminating anyone who she deems as a threat to her ward. The first film concludes (spoilers!) with Gemma and Cady shutting her down, though not without an ominous twist, as it is hinted that remnants of her consciousness now inhabit their home’s camera system.

Turns out, M3GAN is indeed still operational, albeit now contained in a fashionably innocuous doll. Meanwhile, a defense contractor had repurposed the same technology that birthed M3GAN to create AMELIA, an advanced AI who of course turns on her creators with an intent to take over the world. With the stakes higher than ever, Gemma is forced to reassemble and weaponise M3GAN in a last-ditch effort to defend humanity against its newest and more deadly robotic threat.

What’s better than one murderous robot? Two of them!

F1 The Movie

Release Date:  26 June 2025

Starring: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon

Starring the incredibly versatile Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a cynical casual racer who was forced to leave his once promising career as a Formula One (F1) driver after a traumatic crash, the film begins with F1 team owner and friend, Ruben, coaxing him to return to the circuit as a mentor to prodigious rookie, Noah, for the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).

Interesting fact – drivers from all 10 F1 teams in the 2023 season will have cameo appearances in the film, featuring the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Saint Jr and Max Verstappen!

Not only will they learn tent pitching and basha building, but they will also pick up invaluable jungle navigation and self-defence foundations that will only strengthen their self-confidence and endurance.

And of course, in true military fashion, the entire camp wraps up with a celebratory Passing Out Parade where they can throw their jockey cap in the air and scream “ORD LO!” as you watch on with pride!

You can find the full itinerary and packing list at safra.sg/bmt-kids-ys

Registration Period: Until 8 June 2025

Registration Fees: $294.30 (SAFRA Adventure Club member), $299.75 (SAFRA member), $327 (guest)

Begin your navy training with crucial water survival techniques with the likes of the handling of an inflatable boat and a snorkeling crash course!

Similar to their time at BMT Kids Camp, parents can spectate their kids’ second Passing Out Parade at the end of their training to celebrate yet another mission success!

Registration Period: Until 25 May 2025

Zus Coffee at Westgate

Zus Coffee at Westgate

Westies now have a new place to get their caffeine fix with the famous Zus Coffee chain from Malaysia landing at Westgate. This marks the chain’s second Singapore outlet, after the first one at Changi Airport.

Try their signature Matcha Strawberry Latte, made of a layer of strawberry milk topped with matcha latte. For coffee lovers, the Spanish Latte is a good choice, especially if you love sweet beverages. That’s because condensed milk is used instead of fresh milk.

Drinks aren’t the only thing worth heading down to Zus Coffee for, though. They also serve up food like pasta and bento rice, starting from $6.90. You can easily head here for lunch if you work or live in the West. After all, you no longer have to cross the border for your Zus Coffee cravings.

Sugar Belly at Jewel

Sugar Belly at Jewel

Matcha enthusiasts, take note – Sugar Belly has opened its doors at Jewel Changi, offering Singapore’s first self-serve matcha-on tap-concept. Founded by Alexan Tang in 2020, this homegrown brand made waves at events like Artbox and Takashimaya Food Fiesta, and is now serving signature creations from a permanent spot in the east.

The star of the show here are two matcha beverages on tap: the creamy Iced Matcha Latte ($6) and the fruity Iced Matcha Strawberry ($7). The process is delightfully interactive – after receiving your cup (and a dollop of house-made strawberry jam for the latter), simply place it under the tap for a perfectly dispensed matcha drink every time.

Pair your drink with Sugar Belly’s famous mochi doughnuts, priced at $6 each. Popular picks include the Matcha Strawberry doughnut, topped with matcha white chocolate glaze and freeze-dried strawberries, or the Sakura Strawberry, which evokes the nostalgic taste of strawberry Pocky sticks.

Tonshou

Tonshou

Tonshou, the renowned tonkatsu restaurant from Busan, Korea, has made its debut in Singapore. Famous for its charcoal-grilled pork cutlets, this eatery has a reputation for long queues and reservations snapped up in minutes. Now, Singaporeans can experience what all the fuss is about.

Tonshou stands out by grilling its tonkatsu over charcoal, a method that imparts a smoky depth to the meat. Choose between the Hire Katsu Cutlet ($28) – lean and tender pork tenderloin – or the Rosu Katsu Cutlet (from $29), featuring pork loin with a good balance of lean meat and fat.

Each set comes with rice, miso soup, and unique additions like chilled corn soup and cabbage kimchi. Don’t miss the curry sauce ($5 top-up), a standout condiment packed with complex spices, or try the traditional pairing of Maldon salt and lemon for a refreshing twist.

For something different, the Katsu Sando ($21) offers perfectly balanced layers of meat and bread in a handheld delight.
